It was so good to have a close friend come visit me...I could for the first time i
n a month really let my guard down and have someone who knows me very well to hang out with. She picked an awesome weekend to come too, since it was Paris' "Nuit Blanche". This is a huge overnight cultural
festival held every first weekend in October where museums have free entry till the early morning hours, some metro and bus lines stay open all night, churches are taken over and turned into really random cultural showcases, and there are just really random things happening all over the city until
7am. We just wandered Saturday night all around the city and saw everything from a hip-hop dance performance in a tiny cathedral to an artisticly based slideshow projected onto this huge tower to the filming of a singing and dancing scene for a Bollywood movie in the middle of the tra
in
station Gare de Lyon. It was pretty wild, I've got a few random pictures from it uploaded here.
Having Chambers here also gave us an excuse to go out and do things we don't usually do--such as actually eating in restaurants ;). Despite living in one of the fine food capitals of the world, I barely ever eat out, prefering to live on more of a 4euro/day cooking at home budget. We had a delicious italian dinner on Saturday night, and Emily took us yesterday to this amazing tea room on the Champs Elysee called Laduree. It was so much fun, it is an ornately decorated multilevel restaurant with a huge variety of teas and the best macaroons I've ever tasted. Ok, so it was my first ever Macaroon, but it was still fantastic. Its a little pricey but I think its definitely worth it if you ever want to get a real "parisian" experience. Do that right after you walk into the huge Louis Vuitton store and act like you belong (which is hard to do, we also tried that this weekend).
Although eating out was good, Chambers decided to make us two delicious dinners, including one of tacos! I've missed mexican food sooooo much. She even made fresh salsa from ingredients we bought at the Bastille market on Saturday morning...roasted the peppers over the open gas stove flame too. I'm not quite that daring in my cooking yet :-P
My second week of classes started today as well. I was supposed to have 3 classes today but last night got an email saying that my Tuesday night class was now moved to Wednesday nights. Can they even do that? You can't change the day that a class meets after the school year has already begun! That is so French... But my classes today were a little difficult. I'm having some trouble following the lectures in my classes in French. I only catch about 2/3 of the words and the rest of the time it is so easy to zone out and lose complete track of what the professor is saying (especially at 8am...). I'm hoping that will improve...I bought Harry Potter in French today to work on it ;).
For now I'm going over to my friends Samantha and Shannon's place for dinner, but no I'm not cooking...yet
