Today after attempting to get lunch at Mouff'Tarte (Tarte restaurant in Moufftard section of Paris) and actually just getting crepes/paninis with Steph in the Latin Quarter, I decided to walk most of the way home and do some exploring. I was really looking for this infamous ice cream shop. Well, infamous to me. When I came to Paris in 2006 I got ice cream there and it was the best i had ever had. So, when I came back in 2007, we literally spend three whole days walking around Paris looking for this ice cream shop (because being the brilliant tourist I am I remembered neither the name nor the exact location of said shop...only that it was somewhere near the Latin Quarter and was totally yellow inside). Anyways the sad story is that in '07 we finally found it on the last night we were in Paris, but it had already closed. How depressing. Anyways, I was determined to find it while I was here and actually get the ice cream again, and since today was about 75 and gorgeous outside, I figured why not. So after lunch I started walking in the direction of the Seine, or so I thought. I ended up getting pretty lost, but it wasn't all worthless because I found a totally awesome hidden Paris find-- the Natural History Museum. Except it is about 10% museum and 90% a beautiful park with hiking trails and huge *north american!* trees and amazing views if you go up to the rotunda at the top. It was definitely worth getting lost. So if you are ever in Paris and want an awesome find away from the tourists-- check out the Natural History museum. In classic Emily fashion I have no idea where it was, but it is somewhere in between the latin quarter (Place Monge metro) and the Seine...
The happy ending to the story is that I was able to find the ice cream place, it was open, and the ice cream was just as good as I remembered-- still the best I've ever had. Come visit and I'll take you there (I can find it now-- I promise :-P).
